2024 automation wrap-up

What a year! 2024 has been a year of breakthroughs, innovation, and incredible growth.

Together, we’ve pushed the boundaries of what’s possible further than ever – with amazing results. With record numbers of people using Make to automate, there’s no doubt that this has been the biggest year yet for automation.

Here’s a look at the highlights:

  • More than a million new users have discovered the magic of Make in 2024, growing our global community of Makers by 68% to an incredible 3.1 million.

  • A staggering 5.6 billion scenarios have been run. That’s more than a billion more than in 2023, reflecting a 26% growth in usage.

  • We’ve added more than 500 new apps, taking the total apps now available to a record 2,100+ and making it easier than ever to do more with Make.

Our community is stronger than ever

One of our proudest milestones this year has been growing the Make Community – an online place to meet fellow Makers and share automation inspiration – to almost 30,000 members, with 18,700 users joining in the last 12 months alone.

A whopping 11,000 conversations have been started in the Community in 2024, taking the all-time total conversations to 18,000.

We know that the best automation work happens when we join forces, so we’re so happy to have a forum to help you share ideas, ask for help and take your workflows to the next level.

Learning and achieving

It’s also been a big year for Make Academy, our free online learning hub.

In 2024, 75,000 new learners joined us to master using Make at their own pace, driving the number of course enrolments to 430K – an amazing three-fold increase.

The Academy enables Makers to earn badges to showcase their automation skills – and we’ve thrilled to have issued 70,000 badges this year alone.

Cutting-edge new features

In 2024, we’ve focused on providing new features and functionality that empower you to build faster and better. We cover all the releases in this blog, but here are a few highlights:

  • Make Grid is our groundbreaking new tool that visually displays your entire automation landscape in one place and is designed to help you manage the complexity of automation at scale, with a unique, automated visual experience.

  • We moved to a two-pane vertical navigation menu designed to help users find what they need faster.

  • We launched Subscenarios so you can quickly pass data from one scenario to another, enhancing debugging and helping you visualize connections.

  • Enhanced Notes offer full formatting and are accessible in the scenario editor, making it easier to capture ideas and improve documentation for faster, better, and collaborative builds.

  • For developers, we unveiled key improvements to Make DevTool, including a Chrome Developer Tools extension, enabling seamless reviewing and debugging of scenarios, operations and API calls for a smoother developer experience. We also launched a new version of our Visual Studio Code extension, which enables developers to use Git versioning to develop custom apps.

  • For enterprises and large organizations, we’ve made several important upgrades to enhance governance, flexibility and security. Audit Logs provide transparency and compliance with detailed activity tracking, while Dynamic Connections simplify scaling automations across multiple accounts. New NetSuite and Sage Intacct modules expand enterprise app capabilities, and the On-Prem Agent enables secure local network access without firewall changes.

Unlocking potential with AI

The most exciting use cases from 2024 have – perhaps unsurprisingly – all involved AI, as our team has focused on finding ways to make it easier for customers to unlock its full potential.

  • Make AI Tools: Our built-in Make AI Tool puts the most common AI actions at your fingertips so you can analyze, categorize, standardize or summarize information, without spending lots of time setting up prompts.

  • Fill by AI translates plain language into in-stream automation logic for faster, smarter builds.

  • Human in the Loop integrates human decision into both AI-driven and manual workflows, balancing automation with control.

  • We’ve also launched a selection of top AI app integrations on Make — our cutting-edge connector with OpenAI has proven most popular, but we’re also thrilled to have launched a wide range of apps for AI-assistance with content generation, including:

Together at Waves ‘24

On November 14, the global Make community came together in Munich for Waves ‘24 – our biggest ever customer event with nearly 500 attendees and 30+ speakers

It was a day filled with thought-provoking sessions, behind-the-scenes demos, and unique networking opportunities designed to power up your innovation. We loved every minute.

In 2025, we’re excited to build on this momentum, delivering even bigger innovations, expanding our community, and helping you achieve even more with automation.

Thank you for being part of an incredible 12 months. Here’s to a joyful holiday season and an inspiring start to the new year.
