GhostFlow uses Make and AI to automatically localize 8 websites, cutting costs by 80%

Localized websites, with content and language tailored to specific regions, are the secret to building trust and credibility as you expand.

As well as helping overcome language barriers and cultural differences, localized websites and blog content also improve search engine rankings, and ultimately drive higher conversion rates. 

Setting up multiple websites in multiple languages isn’t usually easy – but media technology experts GhostFlow have proven that, using the powerful combination of Make and AI, it can be beautifully simple.

The agency has successfully automated the setup of eight fully-translated, localized websites for its client, SpazioCrypto – an online platform that provides news, analysis, and educational content to help users understand blockchain technology and cryptocurrency trading.

The fully-translated and search optimized websites are delivering an impressive 80% cost saving every month, compared to using dynamic translators such as WeGlot or Lokalise.

Challenges and solutions

Before GhostFlow was brought in, SpazioCrypto was using a dynamic website translation solution to publish content in two languages, Italian and English. However, the translation and SEO were low quality – and the loading speed was more than 10 seconds.

GhostFlow producer Magnus Helander says: “Google requires websites to be useful within 3.8 seconds – so 10 plus seconds on the existing SpazioCrypto sites wasn’t going to work. The dynamic translation solution also created problems for external embedded content such as currency tickers, video embeds and cookie-scripts.” 

“The context wasn’t right in lots of the translations and the SEO was poor, with the metadata and sitemaps not optimized properly. 

“We came up with a solution using Make and Ghost CMS that delivered the loading speed we wanted, along with a great user experience and great SEO.

“The cost efficiency was a brilliant added bonus and the setup means SpazioCrypto has the freedom to scale localization to any number of websites, with simple linear cost increases as individual languages are added.”

Magnus and his team set up eight separate Ghost CMS instances for super-fast loading, with all content automatically translated from Italian into Russian, Chinese, Italian, French, German, English, Japanese, and Korean using Make. 

As a platform for cryptocurrency news, SpazioCrypto frequently publishes new content. The localization of this was automated using three main scenarios in Make. These are summarized below and Magnus has also shared a step-by-step video tutorial of the entire process.

Scenario 1: Translation and CMS integration

GhostFlow created a custom scenario in Make to integrate with Ghost CMS (but the same setup also works with any CMS with webhooks and API) and create context-aware static translation. A trigger was set up to automatically translate and publish new content on eight sites, and email it to subscribers. 

Magnus says: “Previously, the translation was low quality – it was difficult to get the context right. The automated setup we created is really fast, we have full control of UX elements, and the high-quality translations can be reviewed by native editors.” 

Another key benefit of the Make platform is its flexibility when choosing translation solutions. “There are a number of different translators available,” explains Magnus. “You can have DeepL, Google Translate, Lokalise, you can even have OpenAI. You can plug in any translator.” DeepL is his option of choice though. “We really like DeepL”, he explains.

Using AI for content localization

Scenario 2: SEO and indexing

For the best possible SEO, the eight additional localized websites for SpazioCrypto needed their metadata and sitemaps translated, not just the content itself. GhostFlow automated this in Make, using a custom webhook to translate the title, URL, image ALT tags, excerpt, tags and categories, creating a unique XML sitemap for every required language. 

Indexing of all new webpages was also automated, with every newly-translated post automatically submitted to Bing using IndexNow and to the Google Search console.

As SpazioCrypto says, "SEO is crucial for us, and the improvements in metadata and sitemap translations have been remarkable. Our localized websites are now more discoverable and perform better in search rankings, driving more traffic and engagement."

Scenario 3: Social media sharing

With another custom scenario in Make, GhostFlow was also able to automatically publish new posts to SpazioCrypto’s social media channels. The setup included AI re-writing of content, instantly publishing new articles to social media in multiple languages - X/Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Medium, and Instagram. The AI-generated summary is aligned to each channel’s intended audience.
